Si Woo Kim breaks putter at Masters, putts final four holes with 3-wood - The Athletic

Despite surging into the top 10 of the leaderboard during the second round of the Masters, Si Woo Kim had a rough day at the office Friday ... or at least a rough two-hole stretch.

Following a three-putt for bogey on the 14th hole and a chip that rolled well past the pin at 15, Kim took his frustrations out on his putter, jamming it into the ground and damaging the shaft at the 15th green. He then pulled out his 3-wood to use over the final four holes.

"Just frustration, like 14, 15 chip," Kim explained afterward. "That's not on purpose, but it was broken, yeah."

But the new "putter" didn't seem to give the South Korean golfer many issues. Though he narrowly missed a birdie putt at 16, he two-putted each of the final four holes to shoot 3-under-par 69 and join a cluster of players at 4 under for the tournament.

"I was lucky I only have like three, four, five feet (left for par)," Kim said of putting with the 3-wood. "The last few holes, I only had a birdie putt. So no pressure to make it. I think it's just I got lucky there."

Kim trails leader Justin Rose by three strokes entering the weekend.
