New York Yankees right-hander Corey Kluber made history Wednesday night in a 2-0 win over the Texas Rangers.

Yes, his no-hitter was the first in club history in 22 years. And, yes, it was the 12th no-no ever thrown by a Yankees pitcher.

But Kluber’s gem also joined a growing list of no-hitters in 2021: six games and counting (seven, if you include Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Madison Bumngarner’s seven-inning no-no).

Consider the following from ESPN on what’s quickly becoming the year of no-hitters:

- First time in MLB history there has been six no-hitters before June.

- Second month in MLB history with four no-hitters (June 1990).

- First time ever three teams have been no-hit twice in a season (Indians, Mariners, Rangers).

- First time since June 29, 1990, that no-hitters were thrown one or fewer days apart (Dave Stewart and Fernando Valenzuela threw them on same day).

- Four no-hitters in a 15-day span (second-shortest span between four no-hitters in MLB history -- 13 days in 1917).

- Five no-hitters thrown on road (most in a season all-time).

- Six no-hitters overall (one shy of tying the most in a season in the modern era and two shy of tying the overall MLB record -- eight in 1884).

Kluber is scheduled to return to the mound on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays when he will take a run at another MLB record: back-to-back no-hitters.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Vander Meer, who was born in Prospect Park, N.J., threw back-to-back no-no’s in 1938.
