Here are five things to know about new Met Francisco Lindor:

He’s a first

In 2016, Lindor became the first Puerto Rican shortstop in MLB history to win the Gold Glove award. Lindor, who was born in Caguas, P.R., and moved to Florida with his family when he was 12 years old, also won a Gold Glove with Cleveland in 2019.

He likes to visit his alma mater

Lindor graduated in 2011 from Montverde Academy in Florida, which subsequently named the baseball field in his honor. He is a frequent visitor to the school, working out with the team and conducting clinics.

He’s got a catchy nickname

Lindor has the moniker “Mr. Smile,” which he wore on the back of his jersey during the first Players Weekend in 2017. Lindor also answers to “Paquito,” which is Spanish for Francisco.

He’s postseason tested

In 95 career at-bats in the postseason, Lindor has homered five times. That includes a grand slam against the Yankees in the 2017 ALDS. He became only the third shortstop in major league history to hit a grand slam in the postseason. Lindor has a .263/.327/.463 slash line in 25 career postseason games. He reached the World Series with the Indians in 2016.

Last season was his worst

In 60 games, Lindor produced a .750 OPS, leading the American League in plate appearances with 266. In the previous four seasons he was an All-Star selection. A switch hitter, Lindor won two Silver Sluggers in the AL as the best offensive player at shortstop.
