LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The 2021 U.S. Open leaderboard is strong with a couple of guys looking for their first major championships out in front and some heavy hitters right on their tails -- plus some really heavy hitters just beyond them. Saturday's third round is stacking up to be some true Moving Day pandemonium at Torrey Pines with nobody truly separating themselves from the pack thus far. That means that there are still a dozen stars still truly in the mix, which should make for some tremendous Saturday viewing.
Richard Bland is storyline No. 1. The 48-year-old from England co-leads alongside Russell Henley after 36 holes and is looking for a life-changing win a month after he got what he thought was a life-changing win at the British masters. This one would usurp that, although with him gaining most of his strokes with the putter and Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Matthew Wolff, Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen bearing down on him, things are not looking so great. Before all of that, though, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa will try to stick a lightning bolt into the soul of the tournament and shake up what has been a pretty even first few days.
