Earlier today news broke that the Chicago Bears offered the Seattle Seahawks three first-round picks, a third-round pick, plus two unknown veteran players for Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson. Seattle of course turned the Bears down, for now, and they went on to sign quarterback Andy Dalton. CBS Sports’ Jason La Confora — I know, I know, his track record on Bears news is sketchy at best — reported that Bears GM Ryan Pace actually offered the Seahawks several veteran players to choose from, including starters Akiem Hicks and Khalil Mack.
The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs is reporting that Seattle isn’t the only team that may have talked with the Bears about a trade for Hicks, saying that there are “rumblings” around the league that Hicks is available.
Trading the 31-year old Hicks would create a big hole in the Bears defense, but it would also create $10.5 million in cap space for 2021.
The Bears did sign defensive lineman Angelo Blackson on Wednesday night to fortify their depth at the position, but he’s not going to be able to replicate Hicks’ status on the defense.
