As the NFL season comes to an end, we bring another 2021 NFL Mock Draft
We are getting closer to a solidified draft order as the NFL regular season has come to an end; the college football season has just one week to go as well. Prospects are declaring, and team needs are becoming clear as another 2021 NFL Mock Draft is set to begin.
The College Football Playoffs shed light on the quarterback battle, as Ohio State quarterback heard all of the negative feedback and came out to shred the Clemson secondary. This battle for QB2 behind the obvious choice is far from over, but Fields showed he was the preseason QB2 for a reason, and that he has every bit the talent of any gunslinger in the class.
Where does he land in this mock draft? How does the board fall in three rounds of fun.
*Draft order determined by current standings via Tankathon
1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
No doubt here at the top of the board. Even while harassed by the Ohio State defense all night in the semi-finals, Lawrence managed to make big throws to crucial levels of the field. One game will not define his standing as a prospect either, as he is still the most talented passer to enter the draft since Andrew Luck came out of Stanford in 2012 (and potentially before).
As the Jaguars lock in the top pick in the draft after a one-win season in 2020, Lawrence is the clear and easy target at the top of the draft. As the Jaguars look for their franchise quarterback and the face of the franchise, they have to look no further than the guy who has been the coveted prize since he entered school in 2018.
2. New York Jets: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
There has never been a doubt in this writer’s mind that Fields is the second best quarterback in this class. The rise of BYU quarterback Zach Wilson has made that difficult in the public eye, but Fields has tools to make teams drool over. From his mobility, to clean throwing motion, to the zip he can put behind his throws, Fields has the makings of superstar at the next level.
After losing out on Lawrence with back-to-back wins at the end of the season, the New York Jets take Fields with the second overall pick in the draft here. After the firing of head coach Adam Gase, they will look for a new face under center as well. Pairing Fields with the likes of a new and innovative head coach, the future looks less gloomy for the gang green.
