The New England Patriots are not yet done making moves to improve their roster heading into the 2021 season. After already tapping into the free agent market to address three positions of need — tight end (Jonnu Smith), linebacker (Matt Judon), defensive tackle (Davon Godchaux) — they went back to also bolster a fourth: as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, New England will sign wide receiver Nelson Agholor.
Agholor’s deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, will be a two-year pact worth a total of $26 million. While the final structure of the deal will provide additional context, New England did invest considerable resources in a player coming off arguably the best season of his career: the 6-foot-0, 200-pound wideout caught 48 passes for 896 yards and eight touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020.
The 27-year-old Agholor joined the Raiders last offseason after five so-and-so years with the Philadelphia Eagles. A viable deep threat capable of lining up both in the slot and on the outside — possibly filling the Z-receiver role in New England — the former first-round draft pick will add some much-needed big play ability to a Patriots wide receiver room that lacked just that the last two years.
