Goal Italia Romeo Agresti said that there could be a major development in the Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo saga before the turn of midnight on Thursday.
Around 11 p.m. Thursday night in Italy, that indeed happen.
According to multiple reports out of Italy — including Agresti himself, La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Giovanni Albanese and Sky Sport Italia’s Fabrizio Romano — Juventus’ three-year relationship with Ronaldo has essentially hit its end point. After his agent, Jorge Mendes, held lengthy meetings with both the Juventus front office in Turin and then Manchester City officials, has expressed Ronaldo’s desire to leave Juventus and (officially?) asked the club to sell him before the summer transfer window ends.
Romano added after initially saying that Ronaldo has asked to be sold that Juventus still hasn’t received an official bid for the Portuguese superstar, but could receive one in the next couple of hours so that the deal can get done as soon as possible. It has been widely reported that Juventus want somewhere between €25 million and €30 million so that there’s not a loss posted on the books with Ronaldo’s departure.
Manchester City and Mendes are still working on a contract, according to reports Thursday. Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported late Wednesday that Manchester City had offered Ronaldo a two-year contract through 2023 worth around €15 million a season net, which would be a major cut from the €31 million net he currently earns at Juventus.
