Ohio State's Teradja Mitchell is a name Buckeye fans might want to get used to hearing. Although he's been in the program the last three seasons, Mitchell hasn't gotten on the field much for the Scarlet and Gray, sitting behind fellow linebackers Tuf Borland, Pete Werner, Baron Browning and Justin Hilliard.
This year is going to be different. Those four veteran linebackers have graduated from the program and Mitchell is one of the most senior players on the roster. While he hasn't been named a starting linebacker yet, his praise has been sung throughout fall camp and it's only a matter of time until he is officially given the honor.
“Teradja Mitchell is a captain for us," head coach Ryan Day said on Monday when asked for one linebacker that for sure will play in the opening game. "He'll be on the field in some way, shape or form. But the majority of those guys are going to play. So it will be something we will continue to kind of work through the depth of it all, but he is one guy you will see for sure.”
Day's comments on Monday are a good indicator of what's to come for Mitchell, but another came late last week. As Day mentioned, Ohio State announced the 2021 team captains last Friday and Mitchell was among the six named that also included wide receivers Chris Olave and Kamryn Babb, offensive lineman Thayer Munford, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and defensive end Zach Harrison.
On Monday, the Buckeyes released the video of linebackers coach Al Washington delivering the good news of Mitchell's achievement to his father, Terry Mitchell. To say Terry was emotional when he found out his boy was a Scarlet and Gray captain would be an understatement.

Washington: Everything's alright. Listen, I know it's been a tough couple of days, man, but I wanted to share some great news with you. I'm standing next to Teradja. Today he found out he was voted captain, which is an unbelievable honor and I can't tell you how proud I am of him. I know you are. Through it all, he's really become a great young man and is destined for great things. And so I wanted to share this moment with you and I just want to congratulate you.
Mitchell: Aw, that's nice.
Washington: It is.
...
Mitchell: I'm proud of you son.
Teradja: I appreciate you, Pops. Appreciate you.
Mitchell: Yes. I'm proud of you... I'm choked up right now, son. Just bear with me. I'm just thankful for you and thank you for just believing in him, Coach and having my back when he's away from home. I'm so proud of you, son.

On Sunday, Ohio State's social media team put out a similar video for Munford. Both Mitchell Munford and the other four captains will help lead the Buckeyes into the 2021 season when the team travels to Minnesota to start the 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 2.
